Saturday Song Selection 20160123

January 23, 2016 By Chris Huslage Leave a Comment

Every week the staff of Dare Dreamer FM picks five Creative Commons songs that are free to use in your productions. You could do this work yourself, but it takes a lot of time. Since we do it anyway as we look for CC music for Radio Film School, we share our favorite discoveries with you. Enjoy!

This Week’s Picks

For this week’s “Mix Tape”, it is inspired by my new favorite person, my tattoo artist. She is a great artist, in every sense of the word, and, thankfully, a great conversationalist. It was during my latest session that she was telling me all about how she was originally born in Switzerland (which you would never guess by looking at her!) and how despite having traveled to a number of nearby countries, she still has plenty more she wants to visit. So this mix goes out to her and since many of us share this same dream of globe-trotting, put this playlist on to help you spirit yourself away from the mundane. Until next time, enjoy!

Parisian by Kevin MacLeod (CC-BY)

This song is definitely supposed to invoke the traditional Paris scene: the bakery on the corner, tables outside as people drink their coffees on a cool, crisp sun-filled morning. While many of us have not visited the great country of France, it is easy to recognize music from the area and instantly be transported there. (this is also thanks to a few Woody Allen films ;))

As I Figure by Kevin MacLeod (CC-BY)

This song quickly draws to mind the great dances of the Spanish country such as the flamenco. While this does not have as strong beats as is found in the traditional music of flamenco dancing, it does lend itself to creating a scene of a man driving through the streets of Barcelona, stopping in the middle of the street as an exotic woman stands there, dressed in red. Their eyes lock, and then its his move…..

Jingle Jazz by Quantum Jazz (CC-BY-SA)

I picked this song because during my 3 hour session (yes 3 hours and I wasn’t even close to done) my tattoo artist and I found we shared a common enjoyment of jazz music (actually we share quite a few but this one kind of caught me off guard because no one ever likes listening to jazz with me!). While this might not be specific to any country in particular, the fact that you can hear jazz all over the world to me means that you can always find comfort and a little piece of home.

Exotica by Juanitos (CC-BY)

I don’t know about the rest of you, but my favorite place to go see a movie is the Alamo Drafthouse. They are always playing crazy commercials and music from anywhere in the world, from any time period. I saw commercials they were running in 1977 for Star Wars: A New Hope when I went to go see the new Star Wars movie. It’s really a lot of fun and I could totally see this song fitting in with a commercial from Mexico or a very over-done short film with a cowboy all dressed in white slowly walking down the deserted main street of an old town, searching for the man who killed his dog and kidnapped his woman. Oh yes, perfectly over-done indeed.

Banish by Slainte (CC-BY-SA)

Among the top five countries that I look forward to visiting is the lush green lands of Ireland. I’m not going to lie, I really want to visit a castle and hear someone talk with an Irish accent. Maybe that makes me weird and very cliche, but it’s true! To me, the best part about visiting the island is that while you can easily find many large cities and towns, it’s not too hard to drive around and find yourself alone in the middle of some of most beautiful landscapes on the planet. The lush green of the grass, the magnificent ocean views and the dense, mysterious forests. What’s not to love??
