Every week the staff of Dare Dreamer FM picks five Creative Commons songs that are free to use in your productions. You could do this work yourself, but it takes a lot of time. Since we do it anyway as we look for CC music for Radio Film School, we share our favorite discoveries with you. Enjoy!
This Week’s Picks
A Young Griffin Boyle in Drag by Alec’s Band is a song that is a very easy listen. It seems to have a nineties era vibe to it and while the lyrics are intertwined with the rises and falls of the music, it seems to be in equal balance with the other instruments almost becoming one of its own as opposed to being dominant. Three feelings that I found this song to provoke in me are peace, happiness and a sense of adventure or excitement for life. This song reminds me of a late afternoon beach in the summertime. Picture a long-roaded adventure with a few of your closest friends heading towards the coast. The weather creating the perfect atmosphere for the perfect day; and as the sun sets, sitting by your surfboards being braced into the sand. The song itself is very light and vibrant in tone and composition. This video would be a great choice for any montage of still images or clips of life happening around us. I chose No Worries by The First Class because I liked the energy that it shared. Though the vocalist doesn’t hit every note perfectly, the track itself exudes a care free feeling which is refreshing and fun for the listener. The track doesn’t need perfection because it’s the vocalist’s style that makes the song the work of art that it is. It is definitely a positive sound. After listening, I felt the need to fill my time with excitement and energy. I think that track would be great for a break in a movie’s dialogue as to be the center of focus for the person experiencing the film. I could see this very easily being in a fun family friendly movie at a positive climactic point in the storyline. This could also be utilized well in a dance scene of sorts. I chose Hibernation by Ga22 because it was intricately unique. It breathes chaos, confusion and negative tones. Most of the track doesn’t have a lot of unison. It doesn’t make a ton of sense which is what makes it work. There seem to be different phases in the track that carries a slightly different feel and brings something new to the table. It’s a very ambient track that creates a spooky futuristic atmosphere. I can imagine a song like this being the background sound to a situation with a lot of tension. I could see this being of good use in some sort of first person action/mystery packed Video Game. It would also work well in a short film where the main character is in a dangerous point in the plot where every action taken could have a vast repercussions. I chose Continua by Segundas Partes because I very much enjoyed the creativity it expressed and the way everything came together as one piece. This track makes the listener feel a sort of peace, curiosity and contentment or simplicity. It reminded me a bit of old chimes sounding in the fall season. The song started out with one predominant noise and with each couple of bars, a song began to emerge into something beautiful. Using outside noises like items of everyday use that we don’t usually consider to be very appealing to the ear, the artist paints a sound that is not heard very often. It stands out. I believe this track would pair well with something that has a caterpillar to butterfly transformation. The as the song builds, it transforms from ordinary to extraordinary; as could a character or scene. This song is located under Electronic with the subcategory of Audio Collage. CC BY-NC-SA 3.0
I chose Never Love Again by Yumekobo because it gives a nice twist to the typical love sound track. With the title being Never Love Again, you can already feel from the very first note that the emotion is definitely there. The listener can feel the strength and meaning in the progression of the song. It has a positive undertone in the melody which almost yet not quite seems to get lost in the base and the deep, rich minor chords that the lower notes portray. The song sound like passion, love and betrayal. I feel like this track would easily be great for a moment of heartbreak in a film; moments in the story where the protagonist is separated from the one he or she loves. It definitely feels like it would be in more of a romantic and dramatic film. This track can be located under Electronic and Funk with the subcategory of New Age. CC BY-NC-SA 4.0
