Saturday Song Selection 20151121

November 21, 2015 By Chris Huslage Leave a Comment

Every week the staff of Dare Dreamer FM picks five Creative Commons songs that are free to use in your productions. You could do this work yourself, but it takes a lot of time. Since we do it anyway as we look for CC music for Radio Film School, we share our favorite discoveries with you. Enjoy!

This Week’s Picks

For me, I just love ambient music. So this week was going to be all about the ambient soundtracks for films or just for listening to while on the long drive. When I was looking, I kept coming across one name who had just been releasing one amazing ambient music album after another on FMA: Chris Zabriskie. And it all didn’t just sound the same. It is a variety of ambient tunes that can find its way into your own music collection or even into your films. Until the next “Mixed-tape” I put together, I hope you enjoy.

Chris Zabriskie – Cylinder Two (CC-BY)

To be honest, I am not sure why this album is named Cylinders but every song on this album is a great ambient track to listen to. With tones that sound very reminiscent of Hans Zimmer, this track gives you that simple but cinematic quality that pairs well with a dream-like or introspective, have-to-find-myself film sequence.

Chris Zabriskie – Undercover Vampire Policeman (CC-BY)

A soft piano medley, this song allows for you to take a moment and realize the important things in life. I hear this, and I imagine a person watching over a city from a sky-rise. Looking down at all the people as they progress with their daily lives, doing the routine that just comes naturally. And this song is there to tell you, the routine is just not enough.

Chris Zabriskie – The Temperature of Air on the Bow of the Kaleetan (CC-BY)

This song starts off very similar to the one above but about a minute into, the shift comes, taking you from that sky-rise into the sky itself, soaring above everything. Again, Chris is able to bring cinematic qualities to this song, sounding very similar to some of the music thatM83 has been producing for major films. While this particular song might be hard to match up with in most films, it still stands strong as a choice to go to.

Chris Zabriskie – I am a man who will fight for your honor (CC-BY)

This is just a great soundtrack to listen to. It takes you from a very slow depressing melody to some inspirational ambient electronic music. It never misses a beat with its intensity and depth and you stay connected with this song the whole time. It actually is one of my favorites that he does.

Chris Zabriskie – Prelude No. 21 (CC-BY)

Picture a fresh start to a day. This song (which pairs really well with Prelude No. 20) just gives off the vibe of a fresh new start, whether it really is to a new day, or to a new option in your life. It’s simple but very focused with tones.
